As a side dish with dinner or as an ice cream or cake topping, these apples and pears are easy to make on any budget!

My Grandmother has a Pear Tree.  One fall when visiting her, she gave me a huge bag full of pears.  Not wanting to waste any, even though they were hard as rocks, I decided to sauté them with apples.  They were wonderful, and this is a delicious way to use any harder fruit you might have on hand!

  • 2 to 3 pears, cored and sliced
  • 2 to 3 apples, cored and sliced (peeled if you desire)
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon grated, fresh nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

In a medium skillet over medium heat, combine butter, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon.  Add pears and apples and cook until the fruit is well coated, and a bit softer.
