Careful Not To Get Distracted

We live outside of the delivery zone for Publix, so when curbside pickup became available again, we pounced at the opportunity! For one thing, I am not very tech savvy. So it is possible it has been available longer than I thought, but last week was the first week I saw it was available again in our area, so I scheduled a curbside pickup.

Like I said, I am not super tech savvy, so in my haste and excitement, when I put garlic in my cart, I noticed the price per pound. I also notice this when I am in the store, but I usually only buy one bulb, maybe two. Somehow, I ended up with one pound of garlic. I laughed so hard when we got home and began unloading the groceries. This is absolutely not anyone else’s fault; this is all on me. I’m sure there was a point where I did not pay attention, and just plopped it in my cart and went on to the next thing.

The person shopping was probably like, “Wow, okay. So they must be super garlicky people.”

Trust me, I’ll put all of the garlic to good use, but it was hilarious to unpack the produce and keep pulling more and more garlic out of the bag.

I think it was a reminder to me not to do things in such haste. To slow down and pay more attention. Because too often in my excitement, I can easily become distracted. When I become distracted, I am less likely to do the right thing.

“I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.” - Psalm 119:15 (NIV). Precepts are principles/guidelines. Rules. Codes.

How easily I get distracted is a question I ask myself, too often. But when I keep my eyes on Jesus, I am less distracted in doing the next right thing in life. When I keep my eyes on Jesus, I am less distracted in doing the next right thing, right now. For me, to be less distracted means I need to meditate on God’s principles and guidelines.

It isn’t so much the rules and guidelines God wants us to memorize; it is the message of love He wants us to live. When we meditate on His Word and we spend time in His word, we know the message and we are less likely to become careless or distracted.

The garlic for me is funny, and I will not let it go to waste, I promise. But it was also a reminder to me to pay more attention and be less distracted.
