I am a big believer in prayer. Even what feels like a small prayer can be life changing.
One day the week before we self-quarantined ourselves when Terry and I had to go run errands, before we even got out of our neighborhood, Terry pulled over, grabbed my hand and prayed for protection as we went out and about this particular day. After he prayed, Terry looked at me and said, “I’m not sure why I just felt this way, but I had such a strong urge to stop and pray with you. I can’t explain it.”
I nodded and said, “Always trust your gut. The Holy Spirit was nudging you.”
Not ten minutes later, we were at a four-way stop. Just as we proceeded to make our left-hand turn, an orange moving truck came barreling toward us going at least 50 to 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Terry said, “He’s not going to stop!”
Terry accelerated to get us out of the intersection, and sure enough, the truck blew through the intersection, never slowing down one bit.
We were a split second away from being broadsided. This truck was going so fast.
Both of us were clearly shaken, but not scared. We were overwhelmed with what had just taken place ten minutes before, when Terry felt the urge to pray. Specifically for protection. Terry pulled over on the side of the road and we prayed again; this time a prayer of immeasurable gratitude.
We have to listen and be mindful of The Holy Spirit when He nudges us.
Like I said, I am a big believer in prayer. Small prayers, big prayers, repeated prayers, loud prayers, quiet prayers.
Sometimes, though, our prayers are not answered the way we want them to be. Please do not think this means our prayers go unanswered.
“I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!” - Isaiah 65:24
No matter what, we need to be in prayer. When we wake up. When we’re doing our cardios. When we are driving. When we are cooking. When we are heartbroken. When we are happy. We need to be in prayer, always.
God will answer us before we even call to Him. The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf, which is why we need to keep our hearts in a place of constant gratitude.
