"I’m trying to think. Don’t confuse me with facts.” - Plato.
Then there’s, “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” - Mark Twain.
Boy. Do those two quotes speak volumes, or what?
With today’s political division so rampant, it is easy for people to get their blood pressure elevated with conversations. People who only watch Fox News or OANN will believe one way, where people who only watch CNN will only believe another. It seems to be more and more rare to find someone who actually digs into multiple sources to find the truth, hidden in the middle of the two extremes.
Remember when we were all taught to write research papers, and to include, “at least three sources.” Sometimes you needed to have far more sources than three.
The wonderful thing as lovers of Jesus? We have 66 books in the Bible to source for our facts. When we get confused, we have a great big love letter from God, filled with 66 books.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” - 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)
When it comes to topics in politics, people can go from calm to crazy in about two beats. As for me? I want to source everything according to scripture.
I am a pro-life girl, but for me, pro-life means from the womb to the tomb. I want to care as much for the unborn child as I do for the 75 year old battling cancer, with no health insurance. I want to not be forced to give to charity, but to give out of love for Jesus.
I do not want to be known as a blind supporter of Donald Trump or Joe Biden, but a girl madly in love with Jesus. I want to be known for defending scripture as Spirit breathed and inspired by God, not defending atrocious behavior or indefensible comments. If I am too busy defending man, I am not nearly busy enough sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I want us to be too busy studying the Bible to win people for Jesus than to try using it as a weapon *against* someone.
The facts are found between Genesis 1 and Revelation 22. I do not need CNN, Fox News or any other channel to “convince” me of what I already know to be “true, and to make me realize what is wrong in our lives.”
