I saw my new cardiologist and the day I saw him, they did an EKG. My heart was showing AFIB during the EKG, so he gave me a heart monitor to wear for 30 days. It’s really cool and super techy. It’s small and taped to the outside of my chest and a little smart phone goes with it. Any time I feel anything not normal, I’m to record it on the little phone that monitors my heart monitor.
Here’s the thing, though.
I keep forgetting to keep the heart monitor’s monitor with me. I’ll set it down next to where I’m working, but if I get up and walk away and go somewhere else, it does not record my heart if I get more than 30 feet away from it. Every once in a while I will hear a little noise and wonder what it is, and then remember it’s the smart phone monitor. It fusses at me when I have been away from it for too long.
Now, this is not a big deal, other than the fact it will not record anything my heart does when I am out of range of the device.
The more I keep the devices together, the more information the cardiologist will have, to get a plan in motion for whatever is wrong with my heart. I just have to do the right thing and keep them both charged and one taped to my chest, the other device next to me! But with the way I have been, lately; it’s almost like I have hidden the device that reads the monitor, so the information isn’t being fed back.
I can’t help but think about the bracelets Terry and I wear that our pastor, Steve Lawes had made for our church; “Do the Next Right Thing.”
The more engaged I am in God’s Word, the more likely I am to do what is right.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” - Psalm 119:11 (NIV)
If I hide God’s word in my heart, it is so I will not sin against Him.
So if I get away from reading His word for a day or two; I have hidden it so deep in my heart, I still will not sin against Him.
If we have to watch church online rather than in person worship, if we have hidden His word in our hearts, we are less likely to sin against Him.
It all comes back to the heart. The way we monitor our hearts determines the way we live our lives. The closest heart monitor we all have is His Word. It will connect us to Him and it will remind us how we are to live … in love.
