Michala has grown into a young lady I look up to and admire. She is bold and she is a leader.
There are so many areas in my precious child’s life where I messed up. But watching her exercise truth is just another area where Michala excels. I am so proud of Michala and her friends for speaking up for injustices and I watch her and gain my own, personal strength.
They are speaking up for black lives. They are speaking out against people in power who have engaged in sexual assault(s).
I am so proud of these young ladies for being disgusted by sexually vile and inappropriate behavior which only empowers them to speak out against it. I am so proud of the way they respectfully demand change and stand up for one another and those who have been wronged.
“No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” - Micah 6:8 (NLT)
Sometimes when we speak up, we become unpopular. But I would rather speak up for what is right than stay quiet and become complicit with my silence.
Beth Moore tweeted something so powerful a few weeks ago, I wanted to share her words with you. She said, "I know what it’s like to not want to offend. I want people to like me. I know what it’s like to reckon with the very real repercussions & backlashes & be tempted instead to tiptoe around or play both sides. But the truth is, it gets better when you just make up your mind, put a stake in the ground & say, this is where I stand. Yes, there will be backlash. Yes, if you care about this kind of thing, you absolutely will lose followers. You’ll be labeled. You’ll be snubbed. BUT you will have something no money can buy. You will have something that will give your head more peace upon your pillow at night than a sleep aid. You will have integrity. You’ll be true to what you believe from the inside out. Relieved of the burden of duplicity. You will be free."
We need to be more concerned about speaking up for Jesus than speaking up for politicians. Jesus needs no defense. We should be pouring our hearts into sharing the love of Jesus rather than excusing indefensible behavior.
This is what God requires of us: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
The walking humbly part means putting Jesus and others above ourselves. I want to do more of that, every single day. If it makes me unpopular or I receive extra backlash, I know I will have integrity and I will have Jesus and only Jesus on a pedestal. If that makes me human scum, I’m willing to accept that insult.
